last fall i assisted the very lovely and incredibly talented hélène dujardin during a food photography workshop she lead in los angeles. i've often enjoyed photographing food for fun, usually when i have baked something and am allowed time to slow down and make a photo rather than my usual chaotic running around in the kitchen. during the past year i have wanted to develop a better sense of how to photograph food, so when the opportunity came to assist helene, i was overjoyed!
since the workshop, i haven't had much time to focus on food photography, but last week my sister-in-law jessica, who sells delicious baked goods at spice of life sweets, needed some new photos for her spring/summer offerings. the difference in my photographs from before and after the workshop are drastic. as soon as i was finished photographing jessica's baked goods, i sent a happy text to helene telling her how obvious it was that i had learned much at the workshop. thanks again, hélène!! looking forward to more fun with food in the future!

for me the most amazing thing is there's no smoke and mirrors here. real food, real light, real talent. no fussing, nothing added to make it look like something it's not. pure. awesome!
